SEI POSITION STATEMENTS

With over 100 years of combined experience in engineering, construction, and forensic evaluation, SEI's engineers frequently assess complex conditions that require careful technical analysis and professional judgement.
Position statements present SEI's perspective on selected engineering- and construction-related issues, including the technical considerations, code implications, and practical concerns that may affect design, repair, remediation, and evaluation decisions.

Elevating Older Slab-On-Grade and Masonry Structures for Flood Compliance
Structural Engineering and Inspections, Inc. (SEI) issues this public position statement to address the practice of lifting or elevating older slab-on-grade and masonry buildings, including buildings proposed to be raised for flood-compliance purposes.
SEI does not support treating this work as a routine lifting operation that may rely on the original slab, foundation, masonry walls, anchorage, or original-code wind design without a new, project-specific structural engineering evaluation.
